ActiveX info, from the software developers of CamChatCafe.com.

"ActiveX" is the name of a Microsoft software technology used to connect programs together. Flash and Acrobat are both ActiveX controls, downloaded from the internet and plugged into your browser by ActiveX software. CamChatCafe has two files we need to install on your computer to connect your webCam to the website.

ActiveX is most certainly not a virus, although it's true that the technology has been used to create nasty programs. Microsoft, Adobe, Firefox, makers of printers, cameras, etc, all use ActiveX to connect the hardware and software components of your Windows system together so that they all communicate and understand each other.

Internet Explorer's default security settings do not allow ActveX software to run inside the browser window, but you can make the browser ask you if you want to allow one time access for a specific window. The browser's security check looks like this:

This is shown whenever a webpage tries to run one line of ActiveX code. Answer Yes to allow, No to disallow.

If you click Yes, CamChatCafe will download two DLL files licensed from @ctiveVideoX and install them in a folder called "CamChatCafe" in your Windows programs folder. One file is copied to your system folder while the other is registered as an active Windows component called ActiveVideoX. This software captures images from your webcam and saves them in the CamChatCafe folder. The webpage then uploads them to the chat rooms.

To set Internet Explorer to offer you the ActiveX checkpoint above, open your browser security settings like this

Click the Tools button and then choose Internet Options.

Click the Security tab, click the Internet icon, then click the Custom Level button.
In the section about ActiveX controls and plug-ins,
make sure "Prompt" is selected under "Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe". Click OK, answer Yes, then OK again.

Your browser is now ready to use the CamChatCafe ActiveX plug-in and to download it the first time you do this.

The softare developers at @ctiveVideoX and CamChatCafe are professional individuals producing useful software and we guarantee its safety.

Some anti-virus programs define AxtiveX as a virus. This is a false statement, made without fully inspecting the ActiveX code in question. If neccessary, instruct your anti-virus software to allow Internet Explorer and/or ActiveVideoX.dll to access your pc and CamChatCafe.com. You should need to do this only once.
